Growing up I enjoyed...

1/2 CUP OF OATS A DAY KEEPS THE BELLY AWAY!

Growing up I enjoyed hot cereals my mom made: cream of wheat, oatmeal, and some other Haitian varieties that you most likely never heard of before. As I grew older, I learned the many benefits of oats including my most fave: Shedding Belly Fat.

But here’s the thing? I enjoy cooking…when I’m in the mood to cook. Now, you might be rolling your eyes thinking “uh, making oatmeal is barely cooking”. But for me, anything that I’m not mentally disposed to do seems like a chore! With that said, making oatmeal EVERY morning was becoming a hassle. Cleaning that gewy mess from the same pot, over an over. Did I mention that like the Aquarius that I am, I hate repetition and routine. So as you can imagine, I began to avoid oatmeal altogether, which only lead to my downfall of eating nothing at all for breakfast. No good.

Fast forward to today: Since beginning my raw diet a few weeks back, I decided to introduce a quick and easy oatmeal method my sister had shown me years before. COLD OATMEAL! I know what you maybe thinking (bleh), but with the right ingredients you will fall in love with oatmeal all over again & eat it in its rawest form. As I mentioned before, I hate anything mundane, so I alternate the fruits I have with my oatmeal to keep things fresh and avoid boredom. Here’s what I have for breakfast:

1/2 cup of whole oatmeal (not the quick/1 minute kind)

2 tbsp of sliced almonds

1 heaping tbsp of raisins

1/4 cup of either banana, strawberry or blueberry

A dash of ground cinnamon

1 cup of Almond milk

Voila! You’ve got a great start to your day, boost of energy before your workout, or a healthy snack. Of course, you can always choose what fruits you prefer instead or even add them all together if you’re really adventurous! I love this take on oatmeal, as I am satisfied, energized, and it’s super quick, easy, & NO MESS! By the way, I’ve lost 4 inches of my waistline since and counting!

Look out for more recipes of my Journey. Till next time!

@farahlissa: Another “Infinity” Remix produced by DJ Curt

@farahlissa: Another “Infinity” Remix produced by DJ Curt

As I mentioned before, you have to adjust your diet based on your lifestyle & preferences. For example, I tried juicing the “Salad in a Glass”. Yuck! I never liked the taste of V8 and never understood why people order Bloody Marys. In any case, this recipe will not be on my menu. But if you don’t mind the taste, go for it!

Instead, I opted for another Red drink “Flaming Red Energy”. Yum! Now, these drinks are not substitutions for you Kool-aide, Minute-Maid, or heavy juice drinkers, so don’t be surprised that they are drinkable, but not as sweet as you’d like. But then again, that’s the whole point right? They’re not supposed to be super sweet. However, after drinking these fresh juices for a week, you’ll start to realize how much sugar you were ingesting through these manufactured beverages, not to mention the changes: Changes in your palate, changes in your wallet & waistline.

I’ve significantly cut back on spending for food. One, I mostly buy fresh veggies/fruits weekly. No frozen or processed items. The only non produce items we buy are almond milk, and occasionally oatmeal, brown rice, barley, & couscous. Unintentionally, I’ve also lost 15 lbs (no exaggeration) in only 2 weeks. Strictly a result from drinking my veggie/fruit juices & eating 75 % raw, as I haven’t worked out in weeks.

If you are looking to make some changes and would like to get an idea of where to start, stay tuned for more details about this new diet/meal plan I’ve put together. Exercise is also essential. We’ll be discussing this later.

Ciao!

I hate labels,...

It’s been a week since I began my raw diet. I hate labels, so I avoid calling my self this-atarian or that-atarian. I just choose to eat what I choose to eat at the moment. No life-time covenant. No commitment to a cause. Just Life choices. And for the past 3 1/2 years I chose not eat meat. I then moved on to No-Dairy. Then recently to non-cooked foods.

I’m a firm believer in doing what’s right for you. What makes sense for your body and what will give YOU optimal health. We all have different lifestyles, levels of physical fitness, & health conditions, so it’s key to take your personal situation into consideration.

After completing my raw fast and juicing diet, I can say that, I need extra carbohydrates in my diet in order to get through the day. My metabolism is ridiculous as is and now only fruits and veggies has made staying full impossible. I’m constantly left STARVING!

After doing some research, I’ve decided to re-intoduce a modest amount of starchy carbs into my diet. I’ll now add brown rice, roasted potatotes, couscous, & barley into my meals, so tht I can have a more satisfying meal experience. Hopefully this works.

In the meantime, stay tuned for additional updates on my journey as I will be documenting physical, mental, emotional, & spiritual changes that I experience on this new lifestyle. If you are on the same journey, feel free to share your story.
